A Guide To Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood flooring is a popular option for most people because of the benefits it offers. There are many things to consider when choosing hardwood flooring however, before you make your final decision it helps to know a little bit about it. First of all, it is important to understand that hardwood flooring comes in two basic types: solid hardwood and engineered wood. The solid type is made of one piece of wood that is glued together with an adhesive. This is the most traditional type and is the least expensive type.

Engineered hardwood has a backing and a plywood or particle board is used as the underlayment. This type of hardwood is stronger than the solid variety and will usually come unfinished. You can find engineered wood floors that look very real and are very durable. The downside of this type of flooring is that it will usually cost more than solid hardwood. Once installed it will need to be cleaned and protected to last you a long time.

Hardwood flooring also comes in many different styles, colors, and materials. Pine and oak are the most popular woods. Other woods available include maple, heart pine, white oak, and beech. Each of these hardwood flooring materials will give your home a unique look that you will enjoy for years to come.

Hardwood flooring also offers a number of benefits. If you have children, hardwood floors are ideal because they resist scratches, spillages, and stains. They also offer a better sound reduction compared to carpet. Hardwood is also warmer underfoot than carpets. It is also resistant to moisture and is not affected by high humidity levels.

If you have pets, laminate flooring is a better choice as it is non-allergenic, durable, and safe for your family. Laying down solid wood is more costly than lay down a laminate floor. But a solid wood floor with a protective laminate underneath is more affordable and can last you for many years.

The main problem with hardwood flooring is the initial cost of installation. Hardwood does require more time and effort to install compared to carpet or tiles. Also if you live in an area with a lot of traffic this may not be a good idea. The cost of wood also depends on the size of the room where the flooring is going to be placed. For rooms like the living room and dining room larger pieces are generally more expensive because of the amount of wood required. See here for more information!
